Kumpulan Cromok : Latar Belakang dan Sejarah
Kumpulan Cromok merupakan sebuah kumpulan pemuzik dan penyanyi yang aktif di Malaysia. Kumpulan ini menyampaikan lagu-lagu Inggeris.
Sejarah
Cromok merupakan sebuah kumpulan rock metal Inggeris Malaysia yang ditubuhkan pada 1986 (pra-Cromok) sebagaikan memenuhi masa lapang dengan Nik Ramzee dan Che Adnan sebagai ahli awal dan apabila Miji dan Mat Puck menyertai mereka, mereka menjadi lebih serius lalu menamakan kumpulan mereka Cromok pada 1987[1]. Mereka adalah terdiri dari empat orang pelajar Malaysia yang menuntut di University of Wollongong di Sydney, Australia. Ahlinya terdiri daripada Sam (Vocalist+Bassist), Din (Vocalist+Guitarist), Karl (Guitarist) dan Miji (Drummer).
Sekembalinya ke tanahair, tiga dari mereka kecuali Din yang masih belum tamat pengajian telah menandatangani perjanjian dengan Valentine Records dan telah mengedarkan album Image of Purity yang dirakamkan sewaktu mereka masih berada di luar negara. Walaupun peminat muzik tanah air masih janggal dengan lahirnya sebuah band trash metal, album tersebut mendapat sambutan menggalakan sehingga terjual lebih 70,000 unit. Lagu 'Metallurgical' yang mengabungkan intro lagu tradisional 'Ulek Mayang' menjadi lagu paling menarik dan digilai peminat ketika itu.
Cromok kemudiannya menyertai EMI Record pada tahun 1993 bagi mengembangkan lagi sayap mereka. Album Forever In Time merupakan album paling berjaya Cromok dan terjual melebihi 100,000 unit. Album ini disifatkan lebih kepada metal kemelayuan.
Cromok seterusnya mengeluarkan album Yours Truly pada tahun 1996, Mean, Meaner, Meanest (1999), Re-release Image of Purity (2000), What's Left (2000), Deafening Silence (2002), Engrave in Eternity (kompilasi 2003), Untitled (2004), Untitled + raw (2005) dan The Great : Metal Manifest (2006).
Namun, pada tahun 2001 dengan rasminya Karl telah menarik diri dari menganggotai Cromok atas masalah kerjaya dan keluarga. Pengganti Karl pula bukan calang-calang gitaris tetapi Hillary Ang yang mempunyai pengalaman bertahun-tahun dalam muzik. Hillary pernah menyertai kumpulan SEARCH dan menjadi pemuzik undangan bagi artis ternama yang lain. Beliau sebenarnya telah bekerjasama dengan Cromok sejak album Mean, Meaner, Meanest tahun 1999. Hujung tahun 2006, Hillary kembali menyertai Kumpulan Search.
Kewujudan D'Cromok
Apabila Din menamatkan pengajian, atas sebab-sebab peribadi dia telah menubuhkan kumpulannya sendiri dan tidak menyertai Cromok. Kumpulannya bernama D'Cromok. Huruf 'D' pada pangkal perkataan 'D' sebenarnya bermaksud Din, ataupun din telah merakamkan album bertajuk VII Years VII Days bersama Valentine Records pada tahun 1995. Dalam Album itu, dia berganding dengan Muhammad Syahmi dari Muar,Johor.
Din bertugas sebagai jurutera di Petronas Kemaman, Terengganu kemudiannya jatuh sakit dan meninggal dunia akibat demam malaria. Maka berakhirlah riwayat Din dan D'CROMOK.

Sejarah
